Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Automatic Flying Tourbillon Swiss manufacturer Audemars Piguet launches its first Royal Oak automatic watch with a flying tourbillon. The manufacturer has launched three 41mm models made of stainless steel, titanium and 18-karat rose gold, all with exquisite dials.
The Royal Oak Automatic with Flying Tourbillon showcases a variety of materials and refined design.
Made entirely of titanium, this model impresses with its innovative dial design. The elegant sandblasted slate gray dial with spiral edges offers an alternative to the Royal Oak’s signature “tapestry” design. The gray dial with white gold hour markers and hands is subtly integrated into the flying tourbillon that rotates at 6 o’clock.
Inspired by other models in the Royal Oak collection, the stainless steel version features a delicate smoky blue “tapestry” dial. An ultra-modern sunburst pattern unfolds from the flying tourbillon cage at 6 o’clock. The intense blue gives the flying tourbillon depth while forming an elegant backdrop for the white gold hour markers and hands.
The third watch is made of 18-karat rose gold, which is impressive for its modern contrast. The anthracite sunray “tapestry” dial is decorated with rose gold hour markers and hands, highlighting the rose gold case and bracelet. The cage of the flying tourbillon exudes a subtle glow of rose gold.
Whether made of stainless steel, titanium or 18-carat rose gold, all three cases and dials offer the expressive and seamless alternation of matte and smooth surfaces that is one of the brand’s hallmarks. Satin and polished edges are handcrafted.
The new Royal Oak Automatic Flying Tourbillon features the Audemars Piguet signature in 24-carat gold, a first for the Royal Oak collection. Their thin gold layers are created using a chemical process, an electroplating technique similar to 3D printing. The individual letters are connected to each other by thin lines that are almost invisible to the naked eye. The signature is placed on the dial by hand via the calf. It was originally developed for the smooth lacquered dial of the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59.
The latest generation of flying tourbillons is powered by the caliber 2950. Launched in 2019, this latest generation automatic movement from the manufacturer combines a flying tourbillon with a central oscillating weight. Audemars Piguet’s first watch to feature a flying tourbillon was a watch in the 2018 Royal Oak Concept Collection.
The hand-crafted frame of the flying tourbillon is visible through both the dial and case, providing a beautiful view of some of the watch’s regulating parts, allowing it to rotate.
The case also features exquisite finishes such as “Côtes de Genève”, satin-brushing, spiral cuts and hand-polished edges, as well as a special skeletonized oscillating weight in rose gold or rhodium-plated rose gold.
The Royal Oak Automatic with Flying Tourbillon has been carefully designed from the inside out – a harmonious combination of modern design and traditional craftsmanship.
